Talk about squeaking in under the wire! The day after a New York couple, Brianna Doyle and Casey Walko, picked up their marriage licence to get wed before their baby was born; the mother-to-be went into labour. With the paperwork in their bag they asked for the hospital chaplain to try to get the marriage in before the birth only to find out that the chaplain was not qualified to perform a wedding!
Lucky for them another person in the hospital was; Montrealler, Sushma Dwivedi Jindal, who was ordained by the Universal Life Church online and able to perform the ceremony to wed the couple in time for their baby to be born. There was only one catch, Sushma was already in labor herself! She had even reached the point of having had an epidural and so the ceremony took place in her room, with her officiating from the bed, and fortunately for all involved the babies waited long enough for the wedding to finish.
According to the CBC both the parents and the newborns are doing well.
