Update: The Wind Warning has been expanded to include more areas of Southern Ontario including Brant County, Kitchener Waterloo, and more.

Wind warning in effect for:

  • City of Hamilton
  • Brantford – County of Brant
  • Kitchener – Cambridge – Region of Waterloo

Strong winds that may cause damage are expected or occurring.

A brief period of wind gusts exceeding 90 km/h is likely this afternoon with a cold frontal passage. A line of heavy showers will accompany these wind gusts.

Damage to buildings, such as to roof shingles and windows, may occur.

Wind warnings are issued when there is a significant risk of damaging winds.

Please continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada. To report severe weather, send an email to ec.cpio-tempetes-ospc-storms.ec@canada.ca or tweet reports using #ONStorm

There are winds expected to reach up to 90km/h this morning and into the afternoon that could cause damage. A wind warning has been issued for certain areas by Environment Canada.

Wind warning in effect for:

  • City of Hamilton

Strong winds that may cause damage are expected or occurring.

Strong southwest winds with gusts of 90 km/h are expected this afternoon. The strongest winds are expected along exposed areas near the lakeshore as well as over higher terrain.

These winds will shift to the northwest with the passage of a sharp cold front early this evening. Northwest wind gusts of 70 to 80 km/h are expected this evening.

Winds will diminish late this evening and overnight.

These strong winds may cause some tree damage and isolated power outages, because many trees are still in partial to full leaf.

Loose objects may be tossed by the wind and cause injury or damage. High winds may toss loose objects or cause tree branches to break.

Wind warnings are issued when there is a significant risk of damaging winds.

For the rest of our area there is a special weather statement addressing the high winds that are expected from the same weather front.

Special weather statement in effect for:

  • Kitchener – Cambridge – Region of Waterloo
  • Burlington – Oakville
  • Brantford – County of Brant

Strong winds are expected today.

Strong southwest wind gusts of 70 to 80 km/h will develop this morning ahead of a sharp cold front. Occasional gusts to 90 km/h are possible, especially in exposed areas near the Great Lakes.

These winds will shift to the northwest with the passage of a sharp cold front late this afternoon. Northwest wind gusts of 70 to 80 km/h are expected this evening.

Winds are expected to diminish late this evening and overnight.

The strong winds may cause some tree damage and isolated power outages, because many trees are still in partial to full leaf.

Environment Canada is closely monitoring this situation.

Make sure that you have no loose lawn furniture or children’s toys in the yard and bring in anything that could potentially be lifted by the winds and become lost or do damage; do not forget your recycling bins.

As is stated above tree damage and power outages are possible so ensure you are prepared for such.
