Speak Mohawk App

A Six Nations school wants to keep indigenous language alive and has turned to modern means to make that a reality. Its hard to argue that in today’s society of smart phones and smart TV’s that there are two things people turn to for learning. Youtube and Apps, and with that in mind they developed Speak Mohawk. And app that allows people to learn how to speak words and phrases for a language that is spoken by less than 2,400 people in Canada.

Six Nations Polytechnic has some experience with this having previously released an app for Cayuga; which only 40 people in Ontario speak, that has since been downloaded 700 times.

The Speak Mohawk app will use games, quizzes, and other learning techniques to teach words for greetings, clan names, feelings, places, and time.

If learning a language like Mohawk, or Cayuga, interests you the apps are available for both apple and android products on the App Store and the Play Store.
