In what might be a good lesson to pay attention when your parents or grandparents offer you an old collection and give it a look; some rare hockey cards are going up for auction this Saturday at the Woowich Memorial Centre, 24 Snyder Ave.S. Elmira. A local business man was doing some cleaning up and offered the kids their old card collections and when they turned them down he brought them into the Mennonite Central Committee thrift store, MCC Thrift & Gift, in Elmira. It was there that they discovered the collection held some valuable cards.
There were two rookie cards for Bobby Orr as well as cards featuring Gordie Howe, Tony Esposito and even Don Cherry. These cards will now be auctioned off to benefit the MCC and the work the global charity does at an auction to be held Saturday, March 16 with the services of Jantzi Auctions Ltd. But they only have 175 tickets available to attend the auction which can be purchased at the thrift store or, if there are any left, at the door the day of the auction.
The full list of items up for auction is extensive but includes;
-25 Bobby Orr cards including 2 rookie cards.
-3 Tony Esposito rookie cards
-Other featured rookie cards: Darryl Sittler, Glen Sather, Guy Lapointe, Bob Clarke, Don Cherry, Reg Leach, Dan Bouchard, Terry O’Reilly, Craig Patrick

and according to the website for the store there are more items available as well. For hockey collectors this is an auction you won’t want to miss and if you would like information you can find it at elmirathrift.ca or by calling 519-669-8475
