One million dollar goal in sight for local Terry Fox Run organizer

It may be a lofty goal, but the local organizer of the Terry Fox Run says the Guelph run site has a chance to surpass the million dollar mark in fundraising for the 38 years it has been participating. Guelph is just $56,000 away from a total of $1 million mark, according to Dave Picton, local run site organizer for the Terry Fox Run. The local 10-kilometre run goes from 8 a.m. to noon at Silvercreek Park, with registration beginning at 7:30 a.m. The route is also walkable and bicycle and wheelchair accessible. Dave said the Terry Fox Run is special to him because it got him interested in distance running. Later, he began to organize a local Terry Fox Run at the Guelph Correctional Centre before taking over the Guelph run site in the early 2000s. Terry Fox had to cancel his Marathon of Hope before reaching Thunder Bay on Sept. 1, 1980 after 143 days and 5,373 kilometres. Terry made his way through Guelph as part of his Journey of Hope on July 22, 1980…..Ed
