Oakville Fire Department Warns of Smoke Detector Scam

The Oakville Fire Department is warning residents of a potential smoke detector scam. They say people claiming to be with the fire department have been going door-to-door and making calls offering free smoke detector inspections to enter a home. The fire department does not, under any circumstances, randomly call homeowners to offer inspections and is urging residents to be very cautious when dealing with solicitors . The fire chief also says “It’s also important to know that when crews go door-to-door as part of our home fire safety campaign they always arrive in a fire truck, in uniform and with proper identification.” The only time they check smoke alarms or carbon monoxide detectors is if it’s requested by home owners…….Ed
