The Liberal party introduced new Legislation Today that they hope will better secure Canadian’s travels. Calling it the Canadian Passengers Bill of Rights. Transportation Minister, Marc Garneau, has stated that this is part of a larger package of changes that will be introduced to modernize Canada’s transportation laws and make them more efficient.
The bill which was introduced Today includes measures to prevent airlines from charging parents for the privilege of sitting next to their young children, requires carriers to have standards for handling musical instruments, and will increase the cap on foreign ownership of airlines to 49% up from 25% in a hope to create more competition.
There is also quite a bit about other methods of transportation including rail. But in order to truly protect Canadian travellers rights more will be needed. Minister Garneau hopes to have the legislation in place by 2018.
