Today for me is a very important day. It was 3 years ago today that I survived a high speed impact with a rogue moose. Driving along a northern highway very late at night I failed to see it coming out of the woods across the road and running in front of my car. The impact was enough to completely destroy my windshield not to mention a good part of my roof. I was lucky that day and walked away with only one single scratch on my forehead.
Today is a day I think about what has happened since that day. In those three years I have had Christmases, birthdays, anniversaries, vacations, and many days of simple life. It was only a matter of luck that any of those things happened. A twist of fate that kept me from not being here.
Today I remember that I need to be grateful for each and every one of those moments and all the joy and laughter and even pain that has come in my life. And I hope that you never need to have your own Moose Day, but I do hope that you can think about this and realize how much good can come just from being here day after day.
If you’re struggling to find that feeling let me share the photos I took that night so you can realize just how bad it was and how easily everything can change or even go away.
