Lunchtime Trivia Wednesday, December 5

This Lunchtime Trivia had people thinking of all sorts of old fashioned items that might have come in handy, and mostly had the idea right that it was something you would still find Today. Our Question was: This was invented 350 years ago and was used to keep children quiet.  What is it?

Aside from the hint that it was something that is still around it was also let known that it was meant to keep them quiet in church.

The Answer was: The Candy Cane

Legend has it that in 1670, the cane shaped candy became historical when a choirmaster at the Cologne Cathedral in Germany bent the sugar-sticks into canes to appear as shepherd’s hooks. The all-white candy canes were given out to children who attended the ceremonies. This became a popular tradition, and eventually the practice during church ceremonies which spread all over Europe and America.
