Thanks for joining us for Lunchtime Trivia on this St. Patrick’s Day Friday! Our question for Today was: According to the latest information only 14% of us have this trait. What is it?
The answer was rather fitting for the day! And congratulations to those who got it was: An Irish Heritage
According to the 2006 Census, Irish was the 4th most common background, behind Scottish, French, and English. With only 13.8% of respondants claiming Irish as their ethnic origin. These numbers however are completely self reported and “Canadian” was the largest % with 32% claiming it. The numbers also total over 100% as multiple options are available.
This number was unchanged in 2011, even with a population growth of 5.9%.
The 2016 census information is still being processed and released as Canada celebrates its 150th year. It is said to be the best collection of information on the population, since the 1666 census of New France, with a 98.4% response rate. It does report a growth of 5%.
