Kind Gestures Brighten Nonagenarian’s Birthday

Days after a woman invited people to reach out to her grieving dad, a Nova Scotia widower has been overwhelmed with thoughtful letters from around the world.

Gerard Dunn had saved the cards he received from his late wife, Ellen, for the many birthdays and anniversaries they shared over more than six decades of marriage.

But with his first birthday without Ellen approaching this month, Dunn’s daughter Miriam invited Twitter users to mail their well wishes to the man in his 90s as a way to lift his spirits.

Her request was shared over a thousand times, and in just days he’s received nearly a thousand letters and cards.
