Jerry Howarth, The Voice Of The Blue Jays, Announces Retirement

Howard announced his retirement Tuesday after 36 years of calling Blue Jays games. The 71-year-old said he made the decision due to health issues that have affected his voice in recent years.  The Toronto Star

I have the greatest memories of delivering The Saturday Toronto Star and listening to Jerry Howarth along with Tom Cheek as they delivered the Jays game with such detail, I could see the play happening.  From the stats and at bats to the announcing today’s attendance to the “There she goes”, Jerry will always be the voice of the Toronto Blue Jays to me.  For 36 years Jerry called every game.  I can’t even imagine a ball game without hearing his voice.  And on this World Radio Day, Jerry’s calls will always be one of the fondest ‘listening to radio’ memories.  Thank you Jerry for bringing your game to every game.
