Mother’s Day took on special meaning for a particular resident of Chicago’s Lincoln Park Zoo. ‘Rollie’, a western lowland gorilla, gave birth early Sunday morning.
Zoo officials say the male infant was born around 2 a.m. to Rollie and dad, Kwan.
The newborn, who weighs between 4 and 5 pounds, has no name yet.
His dad weighs more than 400 pounds. And a zoo curator says officials feel the newcomer is “on a really good trajectory” to reach that size.
The infant makes his public debut today when his enclosure re-opens to the public.
