It will be 50 years next week since the first Monterey Pop Festival!

Jonathan Aitken, former Conservative MP in the Uk and war correspondent in the Vietnam War wrote an article this past week about the Summer of Love (’67) and his invitation to what would become the festival of festivals, The Monterey Pop Festival.  He wrote “Fifty years ago this week, I was sitting in an ashram in San Francisco with Jim Morrison of the Doors, the Beat poet Allen Ginsberg, and Ron ‘Pigpen” McKernan of the Grateful Dead.  One of them said “Would you like to come with us to Monterey this weekend?”  I had no idea that I was being invited to the founding, iconic, template of pop festivals whose influence was destined to stretch all the way from Woodstock (two years later) to Glastonbury.” Let’s go back to the ” Summer of Love” with Aitken’s account from the Daily Mail in London.  http://dailym.ai/2rdE9M3
