Ice Cream And Brain Freeze!

 

Have you ever experienced a sudden headache when eating or drinking something very cold? This is brain freeze. Well first it has nothing to do with your brain. Neuroscientist Dwayne Godwin explains, “Rather than actually freezing your brain it appears to be the change in temperature in the arteries that pass near the soft palate and enter the brain that may be the culprit. There’s a difference between blood vessels that are in the brain, and those outside the brain in the brain’s outer covering. Changes in the temperature of blood vessels inside the brain would have no effect other than cooling the brain.” To prevent the effect, eating ice cream or drinks that are cold take it slow, this is less likely to cause brain freeze than wolfing it down. The medical term is sphenopalatine ganglioneuralgia and that’s enough to freeze your brain trying to say it….. Ed
