Canadian Cities That Love To Read According To Amazon has released its 6th annual list of the “The Top 20 Cities that Love to Read” in Canada and among the top 20 Ontario is represented 10 times. The list only pulls from cities that have populations of 100,000 or more and is determined by orders of books through Amazon.


Other provinces on the list include Manitoba once, Saskatchewan twice, Alberta three times, and British Columbia four; though three of those are in the top five. The city that topped the list is Kingston, followed by Waterloo, then its out to BC, for Vancouver, Kelowna, and Langley to finish the top 5.


The top 20 Cities that Love to Read according to Amazon is as follows:

  4. Kelowna, British Columbia
  5. Langley, British Columbia
  6. Saskatoon, Saskatchewan

  9. Regina, Saskatchewan
  10. Edmonton, Alberta
  11. Red Deer, Alberta
  12. Guelph, Ontario
  13. Burlington, Ontario
  14. London, Ontario
  15. Delta, British Columbia
  16. Oshawa, Ontario
  17. Kitchener, Ontario
  18. Barrie, Ontario
  19. Winnipeg, Manitoba
  20. Thornhill, Ontario


For followers of this list over the years they may have noticed that Cambridge, Richmond Hill and Thunder Bay fell off the list from last year, Waterloo made its debut at #2, Barrie, Kitchener and Thornhill fell a few spots, while Kingston moved up one into the top spot.


The list may not include cities below 100,000 people or account for book sales in stores or taken from the library but it is a bit of fun to think about how many readers there are in different cities.
