Canada Post out with safety reminders for dog owners

Canada Post has issued a safety message to local dog owners.  According to Kristine Gelmotto is a supervisor at the Waterloo office.   They say they deliver to millions of homes across Canada, and about 41 per cent of those households have dogs as pets. So they want to make sure that the carriers are working in a safe environment – their environment is out on the streets, so it’s really important  they’re able to deliver the mail to everyone’s homes safely.” Gelmotto said it’s about keeping your dogs in a secure, controlled environment as there is an increase in ‘dog interactions’ when the weather starts to warm up. “In Waterloo in the last few months, they’ve had three interactions with customers and their dogs. It’s not always negative – they have many carriers that have good interactions with customers and dogs, but see an increase as the weather gets nicer. Any dog – no matter how loving – can bite. It’s impossible for our delivery agents to know how a dog will react when they approach your home….Ed
