The Calories Winter Olympic Athletes Eat a Day

The 2018 Winter Olympics launch Friday and everyone’s eyes are turning to Pyeongchang and all the Olympic athletes set to compete. One big question aside from who will take home the gold is what are the athletes eating? and how many calories do they consume. U.S. Ski and Snowboard dietician and chef Megan Chacosky works with the athletes to create individualized diets based on their sport making roughly 3,000 meals for the teams. Though everyone has different requirements, most athletes are eating around 4,000 calories a day, a far cry from the 12,000 calories a day that Michael Phelps supposedly eats. The average adult will consume 1.500 to 2000 a day. Megan will prepare dishes like ginger salmon, instead of red meat, burrito bowls and roast chicken. A trained pastry chef, also make desserts like banana bread and chocolate chip cookies. You can expect to see local specialties like buckwheat noodles, rainbow trout and dried pollack alongside international cuisine. Diets vary between winter and summer games…..Ed
