Kick-Off Extravaganza for Brant United Way 2016 Campaign
This year’s Brant United Way Campaign Kick Off was out of this world! In conjunction with the Movies in the Square presentation of Star Wars, the Force Awakens in Harmony Square, United Way volunteers and staff were spreading the excitement and awareness of the 2016 Campaign. Counselor John Utley, long time United Way Campaign Cabinet member, was on hand to bring words of support from the city.
“Launching our 2016 campaign at the summer’s final Movie in the Square – Star Wars: The Force Awakens – was a great way for us celebrate with the community.” said Linda Moyer, Director of Resource Development, Brant United Way. “Harmony Square encouraged movie-goers to wear costumes and a band provided wonderful mood music to keep the crowd’s energy high. We were thrilled that the Brantford Fire Department joined us again this year to help with the reveal. And really, who doesn’t love a fire truck?” she added. “Farm Boy generously provided granola bars and water for the eager crowd.
Attendees watched the Campaign video and volunteer Larry Brock announced the goal of $1,675,000 which was unfurled from a banner attached to a Brantford Fire Department ladder truck and with a drumroll lead-in from the Navy League Sea cadets.
“Your support helps improve the lives of people in our community every day.” stated Kevin Davis, 2016 Campaign Chair. “This is an exciting way to remind everyone that Brant United Way volunteers will be asking for pledges during workplace campaigns, special fundraisers and corporate calls.” Davis continued, “We have set a big goal because we know the need is big. We also have experienced and believe in the continued generosity of our community members. I encourage everyone to say ‘yes’ and to be give when approached by one of our many volunteers.”
“This year’s campaign officially begins on September 1 and continues through the fall. Follow our progress to the goal of $1,675,000 using hashtag #BUW2016 on our Facebook and Twitter accounts,” said Sherry Haines, Executive Director, Brant United Way.”
