Another Mud Day Oozes into the Books

You’ve heard the expression, made in the shade? It was more like made in the mud for the people at a Michigan park. Hundreds of children — and parents — participated in the 31st annual Wayne County Mud Day this week at Nankin Mills Park just west of Detroit. They sloshed and slid around in a 75 by-150-foot mud pool pit made from 20,000 gallons of water and 200 tons of topsoil, creating a mass of muck, then engaged in various races and muddy limbo lines. In keeping with tradition, there was something royal amid the soil: 3-year-old Charles and 4-year-old Molly were crowned Mud Day King and Queen. After the festivities, the fire department was called into action with a rig and sprayed water to rinse the mud-caked masses of their earthy coverings. It’s great way to involve the Parks & Recreation Dept. the community and city…..Ed
